The Frangipani tree, Plumeria rubra var. acutifolia is a deciduous plant native to tropical and subtropical Americas. It is a magnificent ornamental flowering tree. The flowers are highly fragrant and are produced in large quantities over the summer and autumn.

 

The name 'frangipani' originates from an Italian noble family, a powerful Roman patrician clan in the Middle Ages.  Marquis Frangipani produced a perfume used to scent gloves in the 16th century. The name "Plumeria" the 17th Century French botanist , Charles Plumier.
