Marysville, Tallest Trees - Vintage Australian Travel Poster
A charming1930’s poster by Percy Trompf illustrating two women riding horses through a forest of giant Eucalyptus trees.
 
This print promoted Marysville as a tourist destination in the 1930's.  Percy Trompf  studied at the Ballarat Technical Art School before moving to Melbourne in 1923. The Australian landscape and wildlife influenced his work. Trompf's vibrant coloured posters were famous in Australia and his work became well known in Britain and North America.
 
Marysville is a beautiful a small town, 34 kilometres north-east of Healesville and 41 kilometres south of Alexandra, in the Shire of Murrindindi in Victoria, Australia. The message was the "Tallest Trees in the British Empire", the old growth Beech forests in the Upper Taggerty catchment.
 
On 7 February 2009 Marysville was devastated by the  "Black Saturday" bushfire . The official death toll was 45 and 90% of the town's buildings were destroyed.
